What is SE?
Our bodies have an innate capacity to reset after a traumatic experience, yet often our nervous systems are too overwhelmed or do not have enough support to complete a healthy fight, flight, or freeze cycle. When this rebound is disrupted, survival energy gets stored in rather than dispersing from our bodies. This constricted energy can affect the brain and organs and over time can lead to chronic pain, depression, and anxiety; disruptions to our sleep, digestion, cardiovascular, hormonal, and immune systems; and challenges in our relationships. Somatic Experiencing offers a framework to slow down, listen and feel. With support, the body begins to gently metabolize stored survival energies that unwind, release, and reorganize patterns held deep in the physiology. Clients experience a restored inner balance, enhanced resilience to stress, an increase in vitality, equanimity, and capacity to engage in life. They also notice mental clarity, healthier sleep cycles, more nourishing relationships with self and others, and less body pain.
What to expect in a session
During a treatment it is best to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing as we may move between seated, massage table, and standing work. Sessions are mostly cumulative, with the benefits being experienced over time, although occasionally a standalone session may be helpful to process a particular event. Some sessions will provide insights and relief, while others may be more subtle as we work together to build safety and trust.
SE (Somatic Experiencing) Touch
Many sessions include SE Touch which is gentle, non-invasive, and intentional touch. It focuses on areas such as the joints, organs, diaphragm and brainstem. The client is fully clothed for SE Touch and it does not include deep tissue massage or manipulation. SE Touch supports the body’s innate healing from physical, emotional, and relationship pain by repairing early relational rupture and restoring regulation, connection, and a sense of safety within the body.
